more about whitstable harbour village

Whitstable Harbour Village was opened in May 2006, as a short term noble endeavour to utilise some wasted space in Whitstable Harbour, prior to the large scale re-development of the South Quay . Over ten thousand people visited on the opening week-end and the short term local producers market turned into a village, after the town successfully objected to the redevelopment proposals. It now comprises 16 authentic fishermans huts supplied by local supplier Quinneys, plus a gallery facade painted by local artist, Rob Turner. Beach gravel was supplied by Brett . There is a 24ft bouncy pirate ship;  HMS SNAPPY run by local leisure business, MW Leisure and a plant and garden zone from the Whitstable Garden Company. Free tastings of local juice and cider from Brogdale Farm are usually on offer at the week-end from The Tiddly Pomme. Locally made Asian food is supplied by Corrines Creative Kitchen and La La's offer filled bagels and pressed juices.

Whitstable Harbour Village is run by local marketing company Kentish Trader, with the kind permission of Whitstable Harbour Board and Canterbury City Council.

It seeks to celebrate the rich diverisity of local independent talent and business and offer an ethical alternative to "tesco land".
